Tzu Chi Foundation Cares for the Morakot Typhoon Victims

Began on August 7th, the Morakot typhoon caused heavy losses to the
Philippines, Taiwan, and coastal provinces of China. The typhoon brought
torrential rains that caused serious flooding, and made 11,000,000 people
destitute and homeless in the affected regions. Moreover, the Morakot
typhoon brought astonishing rainfall, which caused Taiwan to deal with the
severest floods seen of the past 50 year. Consequently, the astonishing
rainfall damaged homes of many in the area.

During the Morakot typhoon, Tzu Chi Foundation not only provided the urgent
hot meal, emergency fund and goods, but also has planned the intermediate
and the long-term aid goals. During a daily morning meeting on August 11th,
Dharma Cheng Yen hoped that the Tzu Chi volunteers empathize with the
victims’ suffering, and do their best for the preservation of our natural
environment. Dharma Cheng Yen expected everyone to help those in needs, and
do whatever they can for our society. At this time, our society really
needs love and strength. Dharma Cheng Yen hoped everyone has the spirit of
helping with whatever they can, and gathering the strength to help those
rebuilding their families and homelands after the terrible disaster.
