Subject: Expedition to High Arctic

Dear all:

We are planning to participate in a privately funded expedition to Axel
Heiberg Island in Northern Canada (79N, various information at
http://www.wildernessresearch.org/axel.htm ) .

We are looking for a student/associate who is interested in joining the
expedition. Our goal is to search for evidence of ancient organic carbon
once buried under the Laurentide ice sheet, and to understand the fate
of the high latitude organic carbon under global warming and during the
ice ages. The tasks include collecting samples and possibly analyzing
them afterwards. The expenses will be covered by a private fundation.
The expedition is expected to be from late June to early August. It's
not guaranteed to happen yet, and you will work with us on different
aspects. A highly motivated person with field/lab experiences is preferred.

今年夏天六月底到八月初, 有想要到高緯度極區蒐集資料, 研究冰河時期氣候
變遷(主要重點在二氧化碳等等)的人, 這是一個不錯的機會. 雖說不一定成行,
但是去申請, 就有機會可以過去看看, 還可以賺一點錢, 累積一個實地蒐集地
球科學資料的經驗.

應該挺適合大學部或剛入學的研究生, 還有這個夏天沒事做的人, 可以去玩玩.
因為沒說學歷限制, 可能高中對地球科學有興趣, 可以負荷野地實驗的人, 也
可以考慮看看. Prof. Zeng對這種學生, 一向照顧的特別好. 不過, 他也不一
定會過去實地一起做田野, 所以到那邊, 有極大的可能一切都要自己來.

想參加者, 請利用上述連絡方式直接和Prof. Zeng(美國馬里蘭大學)聯絡, 名
額應該有限, 所以想報名要快.
