I have no intention to discuss about the cultural literacy of Singaporean nor
compare it with other country, cos I am not an expert in this field.
I just wanna question the author's rationale in drawing those conclusion which
I think too exaggerate.
Btw losing cultural identity is also a common phenomenon in multicultural
country, so it is not surprising at all if Singaporean cultural literacy is
lower than Taiwan(for example). But because of this background too, their
international/global perspective is broader than Taiwanese(for example)
lower cultural literacy doesn't mean don't have.
And according to me, a lot of Singaporean speak good English.
I don't know in which field you work at, but if you work at some industry
(for example: investment bank), you can meet a lot of Singaporean who speak
really fluent English.
